The body of my artwork represents my connection with the Spirit of Place, Earth, and landscape in the context of memory that links to the textural surface of the painting. Photography is used to juxtapose abstraction and representation giving the viewers clues into the meaning of the work. The subject of the work is water, rock, flows of nature, springs that becomes a vessel of transformation and organic metamorphosis. My paintings have many layers of meaning one of which addresses formal compositional elements through medium, the repetition of image and format. Some aspects of the artwork challenge the organic metamorphosis, transformative and metaphoric features of the Surrealist movement.
The “Evolutionary Landscape Series” is a life’s work. The attached slides are of past and more recent works. Water and springs are images that inspire hope and rebirth. For me these images symbolize the creative power of the Earth.
The inspiration from Evolutionary Landscape Series comes from the places that I have a personal connection, such as, Yellowstone National Park, Point Lobos California and the light of Northern New Mexico. ---
